Seven bodies recovered from Uttar Pradesh's Gandak River after Nepal floods surge
At least seven unidentified victims were pulled from the Gandak River in Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts following flood-driven water rises.
Following a sudden increase in the Gandak (Narayani) River’s flow caused by heavy rains in Nepal, officials in Uttar Pradesh have recovered at least seven unidentified corpses. In Maharajganj district, three women and a man were discovered in the Telphal locality, where Sashastra Seima Bal operatives reached the site by boat to retrieve them. In Kushinagar district, three more bodies - two women and a man - were located near Siswagopal village along the Chhitauni embankment after villagers alerted police on Thursday night.
The sub-divisional magistrate Sarvesh Kumar Gaur, together with the Khadda circle officer, the station house officer and State Disaster Response Force members, secured the remains and transferred them to the mortuary. Efforts to establish the identities of the victims are ongoing.
