Seven killed in fatal A66 collision involving police vehicle and wrong-way car

Around 03:30 BST on Saturday, a Volkswagen Passat heading the wrong direction on the A66 motorway collided with a marked police car, resulting in seven fatalities. The victims included two police officers, PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, and five passengers in the Passat. Four of the five passengers had prior convictions, one being 18-year-old Makai Saddington, who had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer.
