Seven kilometres of D11 highway near Chlumec reopened after resurfacing work

The repaired stretch of the D11 motorway between the Kolín and Chlumec nad Cidlinou exits has been reopened, ending the temporary speed limit.

The Czech Roads and Motorways Directorate (ŘSD) has completed work on a seven-kilometre portion of the D11 motorway near Chlumec, restoring the full carriageway and lifting the 80 km/h speed restriction that was in place during construction. Workers first milled away the deteriorated concrete slab, cleared the base, and then applied a fresh asphalt layer. The project also addressed the on- and off-ramps at the Chlumec nad Cidlinou grade-separated junction.

Meanwhile, a separate 14-kilometre stretch between Poděbrady and Sadská remains under renovation, with traffic confined to four narrowed lanes; this work is expected to finish in October. The D11, whose construction began in 1978, now runs from Prague to Jaroměř, with the final sections to Trutnov and the border slated for completion by 2029.

Why it matters

Restoring full capacity on the D11 improves travel times and safety on a key Czech transport corridor.
