Seven officials indicted over fatal 2025 Tuzla nursing home blaze

A Tuzla Canton prosecutor’s office filed an indictment against seven people for serious public-safety offences tied to the November 2025 fire at a city-run nursing home. The accused include former director Mirsad Bakalovic, service head Zinaida Razic Halilovic, fire-safety manager Mustafa Azabagic, three Inproz employees who prepared the 2021 fire-risk assessment, and fire-safety inspector Ibrahim Sarajlic. Investigators say the defendants failed to implement required fire-protection systems and ignored safety protocols for a building classified as high-risk, hindering early detection, evacuation and smoke removal.

The fire started in a resident’s room on 4 November, killing 15 seniors—autopsies linked deaths to carbon monoxide and fire complications—and wounding more than 30 others. The indictment has been sent to the Tuzla Cantonal Court, where prosecutors also request a decade-long prohibition on the defendants holding any public or professional roles.
