Severe thunderstorms bring flash-flood danger across the Southeast through the weekend
A lingering weather front is driving repeated thunderstorms and flash-flood warnings across the Southeast, with the threat persisting into early next week.
An active weather pattern that began early this week has produced a series of thunderstorms, escalating to a severe-weather alert on Wednesday before turning into a flash-flood threat on Thursday. The stalled front over the area will keep the same locations under flood risk through Monday, with daily showers becoming more frequent over the weekend. Saturday may see a few strong storms capable of producing damaging winds, while flash-flood warnings will sweep from Alabama to Virginia.
Sunday’s flood risk expands to include parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and the southwestern tip of Georgia. Forecasts indicate that by Monday most of the Southeast will have accumulated one to three inches of rain, likely spoiling many weekend outdoor activities.
