Sewage-like water poured into the Danube near Óbuda for several days
Residents of Óbuda reported a continuous flow of foul-smelling, cloudy liquid into the Danube near the K-bridge, prompting the city’s sewage authority to intervene.
Over a period of several days, a murky, foul-smelling liquid streamed into the Danube near the K-bridge in Óbuda, alarming local residents who filed reports with the city’s sewage authority. Witnesses said the outflow released tens of litres each second, producing an unpleasant smell and a noticeable change in the river’s colour. The Fővárosi Csatornázási Művek responded by stopping the flow and later limited the amount of untreated water exiting the outlet.
Investigators examined the adjacent sewage treatment area over the weekend but have not identified the source of the contamination. The outfall is situated downstream of the municipal drinking-water intake, so the incident is not believed to threaten potable water supplies. As of the article’s publication, the agency had not provided an explanation for the spill.
