Shake Shack employee accused of robbing his own Phoenix location and returning in uniform

According to court documents, Keondre Simmons, a 33-year-old Shake Shack employee at the Kierland Commons location in Phoenix, called out of his shift around midnight on Aug. 3 and later returned that morning to commit an armed robbery. He approached a delivery employee who had opened the rear door, pointed a firearm at him, and forced both the employee and an on-duty manager into the walk-in cooler, locking the door behind them.

The manager was ordered to unlock the safe and hand over roughly $2,800, which Simmons placed in a black gun-case he carried. After the victims escaped, Simmons re-entered, seized their cellphones and the office landline, and threw the devices into a sink. He exited through the delivery door, but two days later walked back into the restaurant wearing his uniform, where police took him into custody.

Simmons told investigators he discarded the clothing worn during the incident and that a firearm remains at his residence. He is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping, and will appear in court on Aug. 25.
