Shane Gillis drops expletive during Dr. Seuss sketch on SNL

Host Shane Gillis unintentionally used an F-word while performing a Dr. Seuss-themed sketch on Saturday Night Live.

Shane Gillis, hosting Saturday Night Live, accidentally uttered an F-word while portraying Zackary, a defensive son, in a Dr. Seuss-inspired sketch that lampooned "Green Eggs and Ham." The slip occurred as his character tried to halt a persistent Sam-I-Am from persuading his father to try the dish. Mikey Day’s Lorax later incorporated the profanity into his dialogue, highlighting the blunder.

Gillis admitted the error when his son’s character called him out. The broadcast also included musical performances by Rosalía and represented Gillis’s third hosting stint after his controversial 2019 dismissal from the series. The incident adds another notable moment to Gillis’s turbulent relationship with the show.

Why it matters

The on-air profanity highlights the challenges of live TV and revives discussion of Gillis’s past controversies.
