Sheikh Sultan launches $1.6 million humanitarian innovation centre in Indonesia

Sheikh Sultan unveiled the Jawaher Al Qasimi Humanitarian Innovation Centre in Indonesia, supported by a $1.6 million endowment contributed by TBHF ($1 million), NAMA Women Advancement Establishment ($500,000) and Universitas Gadjah Mada ($100,000). The centre will fuse university research with humanitarian practice to develop, test and scale solutions for challenges such as food security, climate resilience, livelihoods and maternal-child wellbeing in underserved areas.

It will operate from two facilities at the university, including a two-hectare “Living Humanitarian Lab” for agricultural trials. The announcement was made during a TBHF delegation tour that visited disability services in Bali, a women-led coffee farm in Central Java, and the “Home for a Home” housing initiative in Gunung Kidul, which aims to build 250 homes and provide water infrastructure for over 3,700 people. Sheikh Sultan highlighted Sharjah’s development vision, driven by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, which places education, culture and humanitarian work at its core.
