ShinyHunters’ extortion site disappears amid FBI data breach probe

The hacker collective ShinyHunters says it exfiltrated two to three terabytes of personal, employment and medical records from the FBIJobs.gov portal, including names, addresses, social security numbers and health information of agents, applicants and senior officials. The group posted an online forum demanding the FBI correct a May advisory within a week, and shared a limited data sample with journalists while stating it would not publish the full trove.

The FBI confirmed an active investigation and released a video urging the hackers to contact authorities. The extortion site went offline a day after the deadline for the FBI to amend the advisory expired.
