Late Tuesday night, around 9 p.m., Shiv Sena UBT’s Thane division chief Pradeep Purnekar was attacked by gunmen on a motorcycle in the Manpada-Ganesh Nagar locality, directly in front of his office. The assailants fired multiple shots, inflicting two fatal wounds to his chest; he was rushed to Infinity Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police sealed off the scene, gathered forensic material, and are scrutinising CCTV recordings to trace the perpetrators’ escape route.
Checkpoints have been established at major exits from Thane to aid the hunt. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, examining both political rivalry and personal enmity as possible drivers. Senior party figures have called for swift arrests and a thorough investigation.
