Siddaramaiah seeks court order to block alleged sting video circulation
Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has filed a petition for an ex parte injunction to stop media outlets from publishing a purported sting operation video he says was used to force his resignation.
Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has petitioned the 18th City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru for an ex parte interim injunction to prevent media houses from releasing or airing a video tied to a supposed sting operation. He alleges the footage, which he calls false propaganda, was deployed to compel his resignation in May and damage his public image. The court is expected to hear the case on Tuesday.
Union minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy has accused Shivakumar of using the sting to force Siddaramaiah out, but no independent verification exists. Shivakumar denied the claim and warned of similar attempts to trap him after becoming chief minister. Siddaramaiah stepped down after party leadership directed him to make way for Shivakumar ahead of the 2028 state elections, declining a Rajya Sabha seat to stay active in Karnataka politics.
Why it matters
The case highlights internal power struggles within Karnataka's Congress party and raises concerns about political misuse of media.
