Signal Festival expands to Dejvice, adds student zone and Havel tribute installations
The Signal Festival will feature 21 installations across two main routes in Prague, including a new circuit in Dejvice and a student-focused zone, while honoring Václav Havel’s legacy.
This edition of the Signal Festival presents 21 installations and guides audiences through two primary paths: the traditional central Prague route and a fresh circuit in Dejvice that blends digital art with the district’s architecture and university environment. Among the highlights is Jim Campbell’s "Scattered Light" in General Lázaro Cárdenas Park, featuring 1,500 LED points that form constellations and fleeting human figures.
The historic Bubenec wastewater treatment plant hosts a site-specific performance by Laterna magika and a ten-metre laser work by Taiwanese artist Aka Changa on the Vltava. The paid Signal INSIDE program offers eight installations inside notable venues, including Kurt Hentschläger’s dark-room piece in the Savarin Riding Hall and a collaborative moon-themed work by Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang at Divadlo X10. Czech creators such as Maxim Velčovský, Jan Kaláb and Milan Cais also contribute, with Cais’s "Gate of Imagination" turning into an audiovisual scene after dark.
To commemorate the 90th anniversary of Václav Havel’s birth, two installations inspired by his essay "Power of the Powerless" will appear in the Church of Our Lady of the Snows and on the Old Town Hall. Additional family-friendly projects, interactive sound robots and a new Student Visions zone showcase emerging talent from ČVUT and VŠCHT.
Why it matters
The festival’s expansion and new student zone highlight Prague’s growing role as a hub for digital art and interdisciplinary collaboration.
