Sikorski condemns President Nawrocki's remarks on Braun and right-wing Senate pact

President Karol Nawrocki said Grzegorz Braun's Confederation has parliamentary seats and noted pro-Russian accusations, prompting Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski to call his comments outrageous.

President Karol Nawrocki told “Rzeczpospolita” that Grzegorz Braun’s Confederation of the Polish Crown holds seats in the Sejm and, according to polls, enjoys support from a segment of voters, so it must be treated as a current political force. He acknowledged existing allegations of the party’s pro-Russian stance but argued that the prime minister has also engaged with Vladimir Putin, pointing to past statements about cooperating with Russia.

Nawrocki emphasized the many differences between himself and Braun, recalling disputes during the election campaign and his tenure at the Institute of National Remembrance, and noted divergent views on historical issues. Media reports indicate Braun is seeking participation in a proposed right-wing Senate pact. Deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski criticised Nawrocki’s remarks, labeling the attempt to bring Braun into the mainstream as “outrageous” and suggesting the president is ideologically closer to extremist, anti-Ukrainian, anti-Western elements.
