Sikorski urges President Nawrocki to leverage Trump ties for US base and Putin pressure

Radosław Sikorski said he hopes President Karol Nawrocki will use his relationship with Donald Trump to secure a permanent US military base in Poland and convince Putin he is the aggressor.

During a discussion on international security at the Warsaw Security Forum, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expressed confidence that President Karol Nawrocki will exploit his rapport with former US President Donald Trump. Sikorski urged the Polish head of state to push for the establishment of a permanent American military installation in Poland, moving beyond one outlet rotational troop presence.

He also called on Nawrocki to use the Trump-Poland friendship to persuade Vladimir Putin that he is the aggressor in the conflict with Ukraine, portraying Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a victim, with the aim of ending the war. Sikorski cited Trump’s Truth Social post announcing “significant progress” toward a US base, noting that the location would be announced soon. The minister emphasized that a fixed base would involve dedicated units, infrastructure and support for soldiers’ families. He highlighted that Nawrocki, during a June visit to Washington, said convincing Trump of additional forces was unnecessary.

Why it matters
