The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band captured the Grade 1 world championship in Glasgow, marking its seventh overall victory and the first non-U.K. win since 2010.
In Glasgow, Scotland, the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band secured the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championship, its seventh world title and the first for a non-U.K. ensemble since 2010. Over 200 bands representing 14 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Oman and Malaysia, competed in the two-day event. Pipe Major Alan Bevan credited the band's expressive playing and dynamic drum section for the victory, noting their focus on front-edge performance.
Andrew Lee, a 21-year member and bagpipe maker, emphasized the years of hard work and meticulous organization behind the win. The band, composed of teachers, lawyers, students and other professionals, benefits from a strong piping community in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.
