Singapore Food Agency probes claim of illegal dog meat sales on social media

Authorities from the Singapore Food Agency have launched an inquiry after a Facebook group shared a screenshot of a Vietnamese advertisement purportedly selling dog meat. The post, which listed several cuts, was removed by the platform before officials could verify its source. The SFA clarified that it has not approved any dog meat imports and that all meat must come from licensed importers accredited by the agency.

Selling meat without a valid licence is illegal and can attract fines of up to S$50,000 and imprisonment for up to two years, with repeat offenders facing even higher penalties. The agency emphasized that food safety is a shared responsibility among importers, retailers, and consumers. It invited anyone with concerns to submit reports through its online feedback portal.
