Sinkhole Devours Driveway of Nicolas Cage's $10.5 Million Malibu Home

Firefighters and utility workers arrived early Tuesday after a reported gas main issue and found a massive sinkhole at the edge of Nicolas Cage's Malibu beachfront estate. The crater, estimated at about 30 feet wide, has taken out the mansion's driveway, a section of the adjacent road, and a portable restroom, prompting the area to be cordoned off with orange cones. Authorities say the sinkhole likely resulted from coastal erosion intensified by recent high surf conditions.

No occupants were present in the house, and no injuries have been reported. Cage purchased the property for $10.5 million in 2024; it was originally constructed in the 1990s by the late Jose Liberman, co-founder of Liberman Broadcasting, and remained in his family until the sale. The home features a rooftop deck, jacuzzi, glass walls and direct beach access, and appears to be undergoing renovations.
