Sir George Iacobescu leads plan for 300-metre tower in City of London
A 70-storey, 300-metre skyscraper is being proposed for Exchequer Court, with Sir George Iacobescu overseeing the project for AmTrust Financial Services.
New York-based insurer AmTrust Financial Services has unveiled plans to erect a 70-storey, 300-metre skyscraper on the Exchequer Court site in the City of London, replacing the existing structure adjacent to the Gherkin. The project is being directed by Sir George Iacobescu, a prominent figure in London's property sector who helped transform Canary Wharf. A public consultation on the Exchequer Court proposal is slated for later this month, with a planning application to the City of London Corporation anticipated early next year.
If approved, the tower could be finished by 2033. AmTrust’s chief people and communications officer, Chaya Cooperberg, described the venture as a long-term investment aimed at meeting the city’s demand for premium office space. The development underscores the ongoing reshaping of London’s skyline and commercial real estate market.
Why it matters
The tower could significantly alter London's skyline and increase supply of premium office space.
