Sister-in-law fatally stabs newlywed in Indore after Raksha Bandhan argument

Police in Indore say 23-year-old Vandana Kushwah, who had married her neighbour Upendra less than a month earlier, was slain by her sister-in-law Parvati Bai Kushwah. The killing occurred Thursday in Nehru Nagar under Rau police station jurisdiction after an argument during Raksha Bandhan about Parvati’s brother, a detainee in Damoh jail for a rape case. Parvati seized a kitchen knife, struck Vandana’s neck, and dragged the corpse into a water-filled tank outside the home.

Both husbands were at Aurobindo Hospital at the time; Vandana’s husband discovered the body after her phone was off. CCTV footage showed Parvati exiting the house, and investigators found fingerprints on the knife, prompting her confession. She was taken into custody on Friday.
