Six additional election offices found to have falsified turnout figures
A special counsel investigation uncovered six more local election commissions that entered false voter turnout data, raising the total to 36.
Special counsel Lee Tae-han's team announced Thursday that six additional local election commissions submitted fabricated voter turnout statistics for the June 3 local elections, bringing the cumulative count of implicated offices to 36. The newly identified commissions are located in Chungju (North Chungcheong Province), Nonsan (South Chungcheong Province), two districts of Changwon (South Gyeongsang Province), Sangju (North Gyeongsang Province) and Gangneung (Gangwon Province).
The inquiry was launched after unprecedented ballot shortages were reported, prompting concerns about the integrity of the election process. investigators used document searches, analysis of seized items and interviews with officials to uncover the falsifications. This follows last week's revelation of 30 commissions that had also entered false turnout figures, highlighting systemic issues within the National Election Commission's oversight.
