Six dead and twelve wounded after brake failure sends Nepal bus into drain
A passenger bus traveling from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu crashed early Saturday in Nawalparasi East, killing six people and injuring twelve after its brakes failed.
Around 4 a.m. on Saturday, a bus carrying 17 passengers from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu crashed in Daunne, Nawalparasi East, after its brakes failed. The vehicle, registered as Province 3-01-006 Kha 1553, veered off the East-West Highway and fell into a roadside drain in Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-2. Four people, including a woman, died at the crash site; the death count later increased to six, with five victims identified as Nirjung Khatri, Dipendra KC, Narendra Raj Giri, Ekendra Raj Regmi and Krish Kanaujiya, while a sixth remains unidentified.
Twelve others were transported to Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital in Danda and Bharatpur Hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the cause of the brake failure.
