Six Flags rider who fell from Goliath was cancer survivor and recent car-fire survivor, sister says

A 42-year-old teacher died after slipping from the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia; his sister revealed he had survived cancer and a car fire a month earlier.

Hassan Kariem, a 42-year-old teacher from the Atlanta region, died after losing his lap restraint and falling from the 200-foot Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday. His sister, Andrea Clark, remembered him as a heroic figure who had overcome cancer, which went into remission in 2015, and had survived a “crazy” car fire only a month earlier. Clark emphasized his dedication to his family, including caring for his fiancée’s daughter since she was three, and expressed sorrow over the tragic loss.

She also appealed for an end to the circulation of graphic photos of his final moments, labeling the practice as “evil.” Witnesses reported the restraint failure, and Six Flags announced the shutdown of several similar coasters across the United States out of an abundance of caution. The incident has sparked discussion about ride safety and the handling of distressing images online.
