Six Flags' X2 coaster remains shut as state safety probe continues

Cal/OSHA launched an inspection of the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain after a July 5 incident in which fire officials responded to a report of an unconscious rider, though they could not verify the rider's condition at the scene. The attraction, which opened in 2002 as X and reaches speeds of 76 mph, has been closed since July 12 while the investigation proceeds. The coaster is already tied to a 2022 lawsuit filed by the family of Christopher Hawley, who died from a severe head injury after the ride allegedly jolted to a halt.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has not commented on the litigation, which is scheduled for a jury trial in September. In a separate matter, the park permanently banned YouTuber Allen Ferrell after he attempted to eat ten chicken nuggets while riding. Cal/OSHA spokesperson Denisse Gómez indicated that the inspection remains ongoing and no additional information is available.
