Six individuals rescued from a shipping container at Rosslare Europort
Six people were found unconscious inside a cargo container at Rosslare Europort and taken to hospital for treatment.
A distress call from within a shipping container prompted an emergency response at Rosslare Europort on Thursday morning. The container, still aboard a vessel en route to the port, was opened after the ship docked, revealing five adult men and one juvenile in a severely weakened condition. Gardaí from Wexford and members of the National Ambulance Service rushed to the scene, providing two ambulances and three response teams.
The six individuals were transferred to Wexford General Hospital; three are still receiving care for injuries that are not life-threatening, while the juvenile is being given appropriate support. Operation Resource Manager Ger Carthy indicated the victims might have been trapped for as long as three days. This incident follows a similar case in January 2025 when nine people were discovered in a container at the same port.
