Six suspects arrested after high-speed chase on Melbourne's Monash Freeway

Six alleged burglars were detained on the Monash Freeway after a stolen Nissan 4WD was pursued following a home invasion in Brighton East.

Around 5:30 am on Tuesday, police were called to an aggravated burglary at a home on Clonaig Street in Brighton East. The intruders stole two cars and fled the scene. One of the stolen vehicles, a Nissan 4WD, was observed driving erratically on Eastlink and was monitored as it moved through multiple eastern and south-eastern suburbs.

Police intercepted the vehicle on the Monash Freeway at Warrigal Road near Chadstone just after midday, arresting six occupants who are now being interviewed. The second stolen car was later found after a collision in Endeavour Hills. No one was injured during the pursuit, and traffic on the Monash Freeway was rerouted via Toorak and Burke roads, with re-entry points at Dandenong and Wellington roads.

Why it matters

The incident shows how quickly a burglary can evolve into a major traffic disruption and police operation.
