Six Thai farm workers wounded by old bomb explosion near Israel's Lebanon border

An old munition detonated in an orchard near Metula in northern Israel, injuring six Thai migrant laborers, two of whom required surgery.

An unexploded ordnance exploded in an orchard near the town of Metula, close to Israel's border with Lebanon, wounding six Thai migrant workers. Two of the injured required surgical intervention, according to Thailand’s Foreign Ministry. The Thai ambassador traveled to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed to provide assistance, and the Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv said it would work with the hospital and other agencies to arrange care and compensation.

Thailand has more than 40,000 citizens working in Israel, primarily in the agricultural sector, many of whom send earnings back to their families. The incident follows previous attacks that saw dozens of Thai nationals captured or killed during the October 2023 Hamas assault on southern Israel. Despite many fleeing after that event, a number of Thai workers have since returned to their jobs in the country.
