Sixers coach says big-five lineup still a mystery ahead of opener

Nick Nurse expressed optimism about the Sixers’ roster, noting that Joel Embiid is ready and the team has added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown this offseason. Despite a healthy preseason for most of the projected big five, the coach stressed that real assessment won’t come until the regular season begins. The unit played together in a preseason game against Brooklyn, while four of the five faced Boston, with VJ Edgecombe held out as a precaution.

Injuries remain a concern, as Dean Wade missed the last two practices with an ankle problem and Anfernee Simons declined to confirm his status. The team’s opening night at Madison Square Garden pits them against the defending champion Knicks, offering a first real test of chemistry and competitiveness.
