Sixteen people have drowned in Pahang so far, and authorities are warning the public to follow safety guidelines near water.
According to the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, 16 drowning incidents have resulted in fatalities in the state this year. The department's assistant director of operations and rescue, Mohd Salahuddin Isa, urged people to prioritize safety when near rivers, waterfalls and beaches. He emphasized obeying red flags and "No Swimming" signs and being aware of rapid water surges in natural water features.
The public was instructed not to jump into water to rescue others unless trained, but to use the "Reach, Throw, Row, Go" approach and contact emergency services. The department also recommended using long objects, floating devices or boats where available while waiting for professional rescue teams.
