Sixth suspect released on bail in alleged RAF Fairford terror scheme

A sixth individual linked to a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford was granted bail, while investigations continue.

Counter Terrorism Policing announced that a sixth man, detained in Westminster, has been released on bail in connection with a suspected terror plot aimed at RAF Fairford. The arrest follows earlier detentions of five British nationals in their mid-20s, all of whom were also bailed after being questioned over explosives offences. Searches of two properties linked to the case have concluded, and investigators found petrol but no explosive devices in the three vans spotted near the base last weekend.

Senior CTP coordinator Vicki Evans described the inquiry as "hugely complex" and said multiple lines of inquiry are being pursued, including the possibility of foreign state involvement. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has cited strong indications that Iran may have played a role, referencing recent US bomber use of the base after former prime minister Sir Keir Starmer approved defensive strikes against Tehran.

Why it matters

The case highlights ongoing security concerns in the UK and potential foreign interference in domestic terrorism investigations.
