SK Chairman Chey Tae-won Appeals Decision Not to Indict Ex-Wife's Lawyer

SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won has appealed the prosecutor’s decision not to bring charges against the lawyer representing his former wife, Roh Soh-yeong, in a defamation case. The lawyer had claimed that Chey spent more than 100 billion won on his live-in partner, Kim Hee-young, during their divorce proceedings. Chey’s legal team contends that the amount was overstated by more than fifty times, asserting that only roughly 2 billion won was actually spent on household costs.

They further explain that the 100 billion-won figure cited by Roh’s counsel bundled expenditures for Roh and their three children, public-interest donations, contributions to ChildFund Korea, and the assessed value of Chey’s residence and artworks. The appeal comes after Chey finalized his divorce and accepted a 700 billion-won portion of the 944 billion-won property division ordered by the court. The dispute highlights the complexities of high-profile divorce settlements involving large corporate figures.
