SK hynix unveils 2 trillion-won financing scheme to support Korean chip suppliers

SK hynix has launched a 2 trillion-won financing program with major banks and a state insurer to provide cheaper loans for domestic semiconductor material and equipment makers.

SK hynix, together with Hana, KB Kookmin, Shinhan and Woori banks and the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, signed a financing agreement worth up to 2 trillion won to ease credit pressure on Korean semiconductor material, parts and equipment suppliers. The banks and SK hynix will each provide 100 billion won, while the insurer will back loans with guarantees up to 20 times that sum, allowing borrowers to secure larger, cheaper financing.

The Industry Ministry described the deal as the largest trade-finance pact of its kind for a single company. At the same event, officials toured the site of SK hynix’s first fab in Yongin and the upcoming Trinity Fab, a joint 870 billion-won testing hub designed to let smaller vendors validate technologies under real-world manufacturing conditions. Ministers highlighted the need to expand domestic capacity to address the global memory-chip shortage and pledged further R&D and workforce support.

Why it matters

The financing and testing hub aim to strengthen South Korea's chip supply chain and boost competitiveness of local suppliers.
