During a holiday in the French Alps, former GB Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott jumped from a five-metre diving platform into Lake Annecy and mis-timed a front-flip, resulting in a hard landing. The collision with the water caused a collapsed lung, requiring a chest drain and several overnight hospital stays. Alcott initially attempted another jump out of embarrassment, but soon recognized she was unable to breathe and sought medical attention.
She posted a video of the mishap on Instagram, humorously describing the incident as an expensive lesson in rotation. Hospital photos showed tubes and wires attached to her chest. The injury was classified as blunt-trauma trauma rather than cold-water shock, given the lake’s summer temperature of about 25-27 °C.
