Skillet vocalist John Cooper warns that well-meaning ‘woke’ activism may backfire

However, he warned that their tactics are flawed and ultimately cause damage to both themselves and the broader community, especially in deteriorating inner-city neighborhoods. Cooper blamed political leaders who profess support for the poor and people of color, asserting that their actions only deepen hardship.

He attributed his stance to biblical teachings, claiming such activism conflicts with Christian principles. While championing freedom of expression and opposing cancel culture, Cooper noted he has occasionally refused to tour with acts whose stage shows he felt desecrated sacred symbols. He maintains friendships with artists of differing beliefs, underscoring his commitment to open dialogue.
