Škoda Auto cuts output and trims shifts amid supplier component shortage
Škoda Auto announced a partial slowdown of production and a reduction in shift work because a key supplier cannot deliver needed parts.
Škoda Auto disclosed that it is curbing manufacturing volumes and scaling back the number of work shifts at certain facilities due to a problem with one of its component suppliers. While the company did not name the supplier or the exact parts, media reports suggest the shortage concerns cable components produced in Ukraine, where recent Russian attacks have hampered factory output. The automaker explained that it is adapting its flexible production system to minimise the effect on overall output and delivery schedules.
It also noted that shift reductions will depend on one outlet availability of parts for each vehicle model. The statement was given in response to inquiries from the Czech News Agency.
Why it matters
The slowdown highlights how geopolitical tensions can disrupt automotive supply chains and affect vehicle availability.
