Škoda expands global steering recall amid corrosion concerns

Škoda announced a worldwide recall of several models due to possible steering-system failures, adding to Volkswagen Group's broader safety issue.

Škoda has issued a global recall for its Kodiaq, Karoq, Octavia and Superb models produced from November 2015 through August 2026 after detecting a screw that may corrode and lead to steering-gear failure. The recall adds thousands of vehicles to the already extensive safety campaign launched by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, which earlier highlighted a similar defect in Volkswagen and Audi cars. The problem stems from a screw that can rust when exposed to moisture, potentially breaking off and leaving the steering gear attached at only one point.

Under high load, this can damage the gear housing and render the vehicle difficult to steer, especially during low-speed maneuvers. The affected vehicles will receive a replacement with a corrosion-resistant screw at authorized service centers.

Why it matters

A faulty steering component can cause loss of control, posing serious safety risks for drivers worldwide.
