Škoda JS wins exclusive contract to supply drive systems for Rolls-Royce SMR reactors

Škoda JS has secured an exclusive deal to provide drive mechanisms for Rolls-Royce SMR's small modular reactors, with individual contracts estimated at about one billion Czech crowns. The Czech Ministry of Industry, represented by Karel Havlíček, said the first SMR will be built at Temelín in the mid-2030s, and Škoda JS will create the prototype before delivering it to the British firm. The contract also includes steps toward mass production at Škoda JS and outlines a framework for future worldwide supply of reactor control systems, potentially generating repeated orders exceeding one billion crowns per SMR.

Rolls-Royce SMR’s Chris Cholerton highlighted Škoda JS as one of the few European companies able to supply such a vital component. The deal expands a collaboration that began in May when Rolls-Royce SMR selected Škoda JS as one of two key suppliers for pressure vessels and primary-circuit equipment. ČEZ, a major Czech utility, sees the partnership as a gateway for Czech firms to join the global SMR supply chain.
