Sky UK’s Meghan Lyvers outlines strategy for original scripted series and film slate
Meghan Lyvers, Sky UK’s managing director of scripted originals, explained the broadcaster’s focus on ambitious, character-driven content and growing investment in both limited series and franchise-based projects.
In a discussion ahead of her appearance at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Meghan Lyvers detailed Sky UK’s approach to scripted originals, noting that the service’s premium status demands high-quality, emotionally engaging content. Rather than chasing large quantities, Sky invests in limited series that spark relevant conversations, exemplified by recent releases featuring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and other notable leads. The broadcaster also pursues larger IP-driven franchises, with projects such as a contemporary adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in development.
Lyvers highlighted the need for strong scripts to secure acclaimed actors, and described collaborations with partners like HBO, Starz and independent producers. She indicated that investment in original programming will continue to rise, with 2029 slated as the biggest year for scripted series spending. Finally, she touched on Sky’s film strategy, citing recent British-focused titles and upcoming directorial debuts.
