Snapchat launches built-in tool for organizing real-world gatherings
Snapchat has added a new feature called “Snapchat Plans” that lets users create private events for up to 200 participants and manage invitations within the app.
Snapchat unveiled a new event-planning feature named “Snapchat Plans,” enabling users to organize gatherings of up to 200 people directly inside the app. The feature creates a separate hub for each event where creators can send invitations via direct messages and participants can respond with “going,” “can’t go,” or “maybe.” Invitees can also view the full guest list, but the events are kept private, accessible only to those invited.
Although the current version does not support adding a venue or location, a Snap spokesperson indicated that location support is under development and may tie into the existing Snap Map. The rollout follows Snap’s observation that more than a third of its core users already rely on group chats to coordinate meetups. Additional touches include Bitmoji-styled cover art for each event.
Why it matters
The update gives Snapchat a traditional social function, potentially increasing user engagement and making the platform more useful for offline gatherings.
