Social media star Olivia Oraksen dies after complications during cosmetic procedure, clinic shut down

Olivia Oraksen, a well-known Finnish influencer, collapsed during the anesthesia phase of a cosmetic treatment at Plastic Surgery Center in Helsinki. Emergency responders were initially unable to move her to a hospital because of a dispute over jurisdiction between the ambulance service and the health authority, which delayed her care. She was eventually hospitalized and died a few days later.

Police have opened a probe into the death as a possible case of severe medical negligence, and the licensing and supervision agency (LVV) has ordered the immediate suspension of operations at both the Helsinki and Tampere locations of the clinic. The clinic’s founder, Karl Johan Svedjeholm, has not commented publicly. Additional inspections were carried out by the Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), and the police are seeking court permission for a special search of the clinic premises. The tragedy has sparked public outcry and raised questions about the qualifications required for cosmetic surgeons in Finland.
