Socialist group alleges renewed FBI scrutiny under Trump administration
The Freedom Road Socialist Organization says an FBI agent questioned an Orlando activist on Aug. 11, claiming the agency is targeting the group again.
The Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) announced that an FBI operative questioned an activist in Orlando, Florida, on Aug. 11, suggesting the agency has resumed focus on the group. In response, FRSO and the Committee to Stop FBI Repression urged members to limit responses to confirming identity, record agents' names, demand a warrant, and promptly alert others about any encounter. The organizations framed the interview as part of a broader campaign of repression that started with a 2010 terrorism investigation that led to raids but no charges.
They claim the Trump administration is actively expanding efforts to infiltrate and disrupt leftist movements. Historical FBI reports had once alleged FRSO ties to foreign terrorist groups and noted plans to protest the 2020 Republican National Convention. Requests for comment from three Florida FBI offices and the FRSO were unanswered.
