Socialist primary ends with no clear front-runner, candidates struggle to stand out
The French Socialist Party primary concluded without a decisive winner, leaving voters uncertain about who can embody the role.
After a brief campaign, five contenders from the Parti socialiste and Place publique voted on Friday and Saturday. Turnout exceeded the most optimistic forecasts, yet no candidate emerged as a clear favorite. Euro-deputy Raphaël Glucksmann entered as the nominal front-runner but failed to dominate the televised debates. Both party leader Olivier Faure and former minister Ségolène Royal also attracted significant attention, but none secured a commanding lead.
Why it matters
The lack of a clear leader may hinder the Socialist Party's ability to present a unified front in upcoming elections.
