Janani, a 23-year-old software engineer at a financial services company near Whitefield, rented a room at a co-living PG on Saturday and was staying there with her boyfriend, Manikya Velu, a 30-year-old logistics employee from Puducherry. The couple, who had been together for six years, had recently argued after Velu allegedly became engaged to another woman. On Sunday morning they fought again and proceeded to the seventh-floor terrace of the building in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
Police suspect Janani chose to end her life by jumping and may have pulled Velu with her as she fell at about 12:15 pm. Janani died at the scene, while Velu sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, where he is reported to be out of danger. Authorities have registered an unnatural death report at Whitefield police station and will question Velu once he is able to give a statement.
