Son arrested in alleged Rs 6 lakh contract murder of Kanpur drug trader

Police in Kanpur arrested Subrat, the son of drug trader Vineet Minocha, after servant Vishal Gautam alleged that Subrat paid him Rs 6 lakh to murder his father and to implicate Subrat’s wife Shalu if apprehended. The police commissioner said the case rests on Vishal’s statement, electronic data and other circumstantial proof, and Subrat is to appear before court. Vineet, 60, was stabbed on Sept 5 at his Ratan Orbit apartment in Kalyanpur; Shalu, Vishal and alleged hitman Rajkishore were detained the next day.

During Vishal’s custody, he first said Shalu offered the money but later shifted blame to Subrat, also claiming Subrat had previously arranged a theft at his shop, fueling disputes. Investigators uncovered a new SIM used by Vishal, recovered a blood-stained cloth, a gamchha and the flat key from a vacant plot, and noted Shalu’s emotional reaction when questioned. The police continue to probe Shalu’s involvement while keeping her in a women’s help desk and monitoring her health.
