Sonam Wangchuk endorses CJP's October 2 rally against election chief, may skip attendance

Sonam Wangchuk publicly affirmed his support for the Cockroach Janta Party's scheduled October 2 demonstration aimed at holding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar accountable for recent controversies. While he lauds the movement's focus on electoral integrity, Wangchuk said his involvement will likely be limited to verbal endorsement rather than on-site attendance, trusting that other activists will carry the effort forward.

The protest arises after one outlet's report revealed that Election Commissioners S S Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally objected at least 14 times in the past ten months to decisions concerning voter registration and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Election Commission responded by asserting unanimous approval for all SIR decisions and introduced assistance measures such as home visits by Booth Level Officers for affected voters.

Wangchuk also highlighted broader democratic concerns, referencing unfulfilled promises to Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule. He noted that October 2 is a symbolic day, honoring Mahatma Gandhi's legacy of non-violent protest. Meanwhile, opposition parties in the INDIA bloc are set to convene in Delhi on September 30 to discuss a coordinated strategy against the Election Commission.
