Sonos files FCC paperwork hinting at new Ace Ultra headphones for fall launch
A recent FCC submission shows Sonos is preparing a successor to its Ace headphones, likely called the Ace Ultra, with a fall release target.
Sonos, Inc. submitted FCC documentation that reveals details of a forthcoming wireless headphone model, designated S52A and likely to be marketed as the Sonos Ace Ultra. An internal diagram shows the ear cup shape with the Ace Ultra label, and the filing enumerates five color options: greige, shadow black, agave, blush and sand. The company hinted at this product during its third-quarter earnings call, where CEO Tom Conrad mentioned a successor to the Ace line.
Technical specs indicate testing for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which could enable Wi-Fi music streaming similar to Sonos speakers. The Ace Ultra would arrive in the fall, more than two years after the original Ace, which suffered from a problematic app rollout. Sonos has since improved its software and released successful products like the Arc Ultra soundbar and Play speaker, positioning the new headphones as a potential comeback for the brand.
