Sonos rolls out iPhone lock-screen Live Activities controls in new app update
Sonos has added iOS Live Activities support to its mobile app, letting iPhone users control playback from the lock screen.
Sonos released an update to its iPhone app that finally supports iOS Live Activities, providing quick lock-screen playback controls for music and podcasts. The new widget presents the name of the Sonos group or room and the current title, but does not show album art. Because the option is disabled by default, users need to turn it on in the Sonos app settings and in the iOS settings menu.
Once activated, the Live Activity shows after playback begins and vanishes automatically after 15 minutes of no audio. The feature also appears on Apple Watch and CarPlay, though those platforms currently lack interactive controls. Sonos indicated that the team is still working on enhancements, including alternative methods to improve the lock-screen experience.
Why it matters
It gives Sonos users faster, more convenient control of their audio without opening the app.
