Sony Pictures Television introduced “Live TV on PS5,” a free, ad-supported lineup of over 100 channels accessible through the PlayStation 5 console in the United States.
Sony Pictures Television announced the launch of “Live TV on PS5,” a free, ad-supported streaming package featuring more than 100 channels that can be accessed via the PlayStation 5 console. The rollout begins in the United States, with Canada slated to follow, and Sony plans to add new channels, themed programming and live events over time. Partners supplying content span a wide range of media owners, including one outlet, Fox, NBCUniversal, one outlet, NFL Channel, UFC, eCLUTCH, one outlet and two exclusive Crunchyroll anime channels.
Selected shows and movies such as “Hot Ones,” “The Walking Dead,” “The Hunger Games” and “Resident Evil” will also be available. Sony intends to bring the service to its Bravia television line later in the year. Peter Wood, executive vice president of consumer platforms and services at Sony Pictures Entertainment, said the initiative aims to connect advertisers with a gaming audience that typically avoids conventional connected-TV environments.
Why it matters
It gives advertisers a new way to reach PlayStation gamers, a large and hard-to-target audience.
