Sony refreshes WH-1000XM4 line and adds two new budget headphone models
Sony is re-introducing the WH-1000XM4 as a $300 WH-1000XM4C with minor upgrades and launching the mid-range WH-CH730N and budget WH-CH530 this fall.
Sony’s refreshed headphone strategy for the year centers on reviving the popular WH-1000XM4 as the WH-1000XM4C, which retains the original look and core features such as QN1-chip ANC, multipoint Bluetooth and Quick Access, but introduces a new sound profile, 10-band and gaming EQs, and a three-minute quick-charge that yields an hour of listening. Battery life with ANC is reduced to 27 hours, and the price is set at $300, $50 less than the 2020 launch price and $150 below one outlet WH-1000XM6.
In September, Sony will also ship the WH-CH730N, a true mid-range option priced at $180, featuring a redesigned headband, up to 10 percent better noise cancellation, AI-enhanced call quality, 50 hours of ANC-on playback and a safe-listening mode. Finally, the WH-CH530, priced at $70, replaces the WH-CH520, offering improved audio, gaming EQs, AI-boosted calls and a 55-hour battery, though it lacks ANC. All three models will be available in multiple colors.
