SoundCloud to let creators sell tracks directly to listeners

SoundCloud announced that artists will soon be able to sell their music on the platform, starting with a beta of 200 US Artist Pro users.

SoundCloud disclosed plans to introduce a direct-to-fan music sales function, allowing artists to list individual tracks for purchase on their own pages. The company will begin testing the service with 200 US-based Artist Pro subscribers, with broader availability slated for the fall. No platform fee will be charged, but creators remain responsible for payment-processor costs and applicable taxes.

Sales data will be accessible through the Artist Studio and Fan Support dashboards, and artists can choose which digital formats to provide. SoundCloud said the limited rollout will create a feedback loop to refine the experience before expanding. This feature joins other revenue streams the service already offers, including ticketing and on-demand vinyl pressing.

Why it matters

It gives emerging musicians a new way to earn money directly from fans without platform fees.
